Killing the bacteria in your mouth is the most effective way to cure bad breath, but there are quite a few herbal remedies that can help you alleviate your problem with bad breath (a.k.a. halitosis):

#1 Peppermint, Cardamon and Cloves

These leaves are readily available in the local grocer, and are surprisingly effective at helping you out with you halitosis problem.

Simply pack a few leaves with you and munch on them to help freshen up your breath on the spot. Just remember to discreetly spit them out once you are done chewing them. They are also better than mints, since they contain no strange chemicals and are definitely much cheaper than their artificial counterparts.

#2 Coriander Mouthwash

You might not want to chew on this herb directly, but simply steeping a couple of leaves in water and using the resulting solution as a mouthwash will help cure bad breath.

Simply take about one or two leaves (three if you want it strong) and leave them in boiling water for about fifteen minutes should do the trick. Let the solution cool to about room temperature and swish it in your mouth like you would a regular old mouthwash. Swish around two to three mouthfuls and you should be good to go.

#3 Edible Camphor

If you have bad breath caused by infections, you can opt to munch on some edible camphor to help break down those bacteria.

Edible camphor, also known as Kaccha Karpooram, is commonly sold in Indian food stores. You can mix it in as an extra spice for certain dishes, or you can just eat half a teaspoon of the stuff if you would rather get it done with. The former option, however, is the much tastier alternative of the two.

#4 Honeyed Aloe Vera Mix

If chewing on camphor isn’t your thing for handling infections, then maybe this slightly sweeter concoction might do the trick to cure bad breath.

Prepare a thick, juicy leaf of Aloe Vera and some honey. Squeeze out the Aloe Vera’s juice and mix in equal parts honey. Take a teaspoonful of the mix and let it spread all over your mouth before swallowing. Give it a minute or two to work its magic then wash it all down with a glass of water to leave your mouth fresh and disinfected.

#5 Neem-extract toothpaste

There are herbal toothpastes available in specialty stores, and you should be on the lookout for those that contain neem extract.

Unlike commercial toothpastes that rely on chemicals to freshen the breath, neem-extract toothpastes use aromatic oils to deal with halitosis in a natural manner. This helps mask the bad smell without damaging the natural smells of your mouth.

Just remember that you cannot cure bad breath simply by masking the odor with artificial scents. Use scented herbs to help you go through the process, but focus primarily on herbs and herbal solutions that kill bacteria and disinfect the mouth if you want to see long-term results.
