Start by lying on the floor with a mat if possible underneath you, then gently raise yourself up around 45 degrees and tense your stomach during the movement. What ever you do, do not waste your time doing a sit up where you try to go the full distance and touch your knees, this is a waste of energy as once you get passed the 45 degree angle (whilst tensing your tummy) nothing happens except you waste energy and possibly start to aggravate your back.

Seriously, to start to tone your tummy so that your ab muscles start to respond you simply need to do little crunch exercises. You need to breath properly but most importantly do not cheat! By cheating I mean lifting your upper body 45 degrees without tensing your stomach muscles, if you don’t contract your stomach during the motion it is another waste of time.

Do not be put off if you can only do a few crunches at first, I would rather you did only a few real crunches than a couple of dozen cheating crunches.
