Even if you are the most attractive person in the world, if you have a smelly breath (or halitosis as it’s often called), that will immediately kill of any attraction that you had built up with the other person. There’s just simply no one on this planet who wants to kiss a person that has bad breath. But it gets worse, because not only can a foul breath harm our love life, but it can also put a strain on friendships, as well as ruin the first impression that we make at a job interview. So if you know yourself to be one of those people whose breath could possibly kill, it’s important that you nip this problem in the bud straight away. Fortunately, there are some ways of dealing with this issue that have proven to be very simple yet very effective. There is simply just not enough space to go into all of them here, but we will start to explore some of them.
The Methods
Brushing of your tongue. Many people don’t realize that perhaps one of the most common culprits is your tongue. Or rather, the fungi and bacteria that will accumulate on the tongue if you don’t clean it properly every day. Few people have the habit of brushing their tongue, and even fewer people have even heard of a so-called tongue scraper. It’s a very simple thing to do as it doesn’t take more than a few seconds, but that still is perhaps one of the most effective ways of getting and maintaining a nice smelling and fresh breath.
Flossing between your teeth. Everyone have heard of flossing, but very few people actually have the habit of flossing their teeth regularly. A lot of food remains can get clogged up in between your teeth. And there is the risk that if the food remains stuck there for a long time, it will eventually rot and not only will it damage your teeth and gums, but it will start producing a very rank and foul smell as well.
However, it is not only between your teeth that food can get stuck. If you have recently had a tooth extracted, it is very common that food remains gets stuck inside the hole where the tooth used to be. It can be very difficult to get it out. Especially tricky if the tooth that was exctracted was a wisdom tooth, which often is the case. This if of course because our wisdom teeth are placed furthest back in the mouth, making it very difficult to rinse out the hole. This is why a product like the Waterpik has become so popular in recent years, as it makes such tasks so easy. It costs a bit of course, but it is well worth the price. It comes with different types of heads, so you will also be able to use it for other purposes as well (such as cleaning the tongue and on top of and between teeth.)
Another way to combat bad breath is to avoid many of the foods and beverages that are most guilty of giving us a stinky breath in the first place. This means limiting or outright completely avoiding our consumption of stuff such as garlic, eggs and coffee. In addition to foods and drinks, it is also extremely important that you cut out smoking as it has an incredibly negative effect on our teeth. And if you happen to be someone who regularly uses snuff, stop that habit as well as it has been known to produce a very foul smell.
Just like there are foods and beverages that have a detrimental effect on the way that our breath smells, there are also those that have a positive impact on it. Some great examples would be yoghurt, parsley, apples, and carrots. It is also important to not only drink a lot of water, but to now and then rinse out your mouth with it. This will flush out some of the food remains that got stuck in our mouth from our last meal. There are also great mouthwash products that you can purchase and utilize that works well as a way to freshen up our breath during the day when we don’t have some dental floss on us, and when we are away from our home and therefore can’t access our Waterpik.
The last method that we will mention here (but certainly not least) is brushing of your teeth. This is a given of course, but many people do make some vital mistakes when they brush their teeth, so we thought that it would be a good thing to briefly touch on the matter here. Many people fail to pay enough attention to the inner side of their teeth. Some people don’t brush there at all, but simply just brush “on top” of their teeth – or on the outer side – which is a huge mistake. A lot of plaque can form on the inner side, and if that is allowed to stay there and gather up, not only will it help to create a smelly breath, but it will also increase the risk of a cavity being created as well. In addition to this, it is also extremely important that you make sure to brush on the parts of your teeth that is slightly tucked underneath the gums. A lot of bacteria and plaque can often gather there and do a lot of damage to our teeth (as well as overall mouth hygiene) if left unattended for a long period of time.
